“We should be working with federal officials—not against them—to get violent criminals off our streets,” says Kennealy
Lexington, MA – Last week, protesters in Worcester attempted to block federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from arresting an illegal immigrant. The individual in question was previously arrested for assault with a deadly weapon against a pregnant woman. Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Kennealy is calling out the dangerous interference and pledging to restore cooperation with federal law enforcement.
“We should be working with federal officials—not against them—to get violent criminals off our streets,” said Kennealy. “Governor Healey and other Democrats would rather score political points than keep our communities safe. The Healey administration’s unwillingness to coordinate with federal law enforcement is contributing to the spread of misinformation which further enflames tensions and puts hardworking police in harm’s way. I won’t stand by while law enforcement is demonized for doing their job.”
Kennealy praised ICE agents and U.S. Attorney Leah Foley for upholding the rule of law and blasted Massachusetts’ sanctuary policies for forcing these arrests into public view.
“These ICE raids are happening in the streets because Massachusetts leaders refuse to cooperate behind the scenes. If state officials worked with federal agents, arrests could happen safely in courtrooms—not on sidewalks.”
Kennealy reaffirmed that, as Governor, he will end the state’s sanctuary policies and make public safety a top priority.
