Kennealy Campaign Gives Maura Healey a Reality Check

Lexington, MA –In a pre-taped interview on WBZ’s Keller-at-Large, Governor Maura Healey demonstrated a severe disconnection with the reality faced today by Massachusetts residents and her own role in putting the state on the wrong track.

When confronted by a June 25th quote from Mike Kennealy that her handling of the migrant crisis was “a masterclass in failed crisis management and leadership,” Healey said, “We’ve driven the numbers in shelter (sic) way down.”

Mike Kennealy’s spokesperson, Logan Trupiano shot back at Healey’s claims stating:

“The State Auditor’s report on Healey’s mismanagement of the migrant shelter crisis noted that shelter capacity was below baseline when Healey took office, dramatically spiking because of her refusal to change course while she used no-bid contracts and sunk $3 billion taxpayer dollars into a shelter system where more than a thousand instances of drug use, violence, and rape took place.”

When asked about criticisms of her housing policies, Healey said, “We’re building more homes that should have been built before. We’re building them out now. At a scale. ’Cause we’ve got a lower cost.”

“In reality, after a 40.4% increase in new housing starts under the leadership of Mike Kennealy as Housing and Economic Development Secretary, housing starts have dropped 23.5% under the leadership of Governor Healey,” said Trupiano

Healey tried to portray herself as the one who fixed the MBTA, but Bay Staters know the system is still broken and far from fixed. Trupiano fired back, stating:

“While attempting to take credit for ‘fixing transportation,’ Healey conveniently failed to mention that after Brian Shortsleeve gave a Chinese Communist Party-owned firm a $249 million no-bid contract to build MBTA cars that are defective, delayed, and undelivered, her solution was to give that same firm another $238 million in cash and incentives.”

When discussing some of the problems facing Massachusetts that she allegedly thinks about daily, Healey said, “How do we bring more energy in to lower people’s heating bills? How do we create jobs?”

“Healey has previously bragged about stopping two natural gas pipelines that would have brought abundant, cheap energy to Massachusetts. The unemployment rate in Massachusetts has steadily ticked up during Maura Healey’s term as Governor and now exceeds the national rate. In her first two years in office, Massachusetts was 50th out of 50 states on job growth.”

“Perhaps the only cogent statement by Healey in her interview was: ‘What is important, to the voters for a re-election, is what I’ve done.’ That’s why Maura Healey will never serve a second term as Governor,” Trupiano concluded.
