Lexington, MA– This week, Massachusetts Senate Republicans introduced thoughtful amendments to the MBTA Communities Act that prioritize collaboration over coercion. Their proposals aim to ensure that new housing development aligns with the infrastructure capabilities of each municipality—unlike Governor Healey’s approach, which relies on top-down mandates, lawsuits, and threats.
“This is another example of Republicans advancing commonsense legislation that reflects the real concerns of Massachusetts residents. I would proudly sign each of these amendments into law,” said Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Kennealy. “Governor Healey has weaponized the MBTA Communities Act. The truth is, what works in one town may not work in another – and it’s time the administration started listening. I’m grateful to Senate Republicans for leading with pragmatism and principle. As Governor, I will end the lawsuits and strong-arm tactics. Instead, I’ll partner with our cities and towns to build the housing they need – on their terms. The MBTA communities act as originally passed by the legislature, only works if the Governor acts in good faith as a partner with cities and towns and with their constituents. These amendments are urgently needed as a safeguard against Maura Healey’s continued overreach.”
Mike Kennealy is committed to building housing that works for all of Massachusetts—by listening to local leaders, respecting community input, and focusing on solutions that reflect the will of the people, not the ambitions of Beacon Hill.
