Kennealy Praises Fiscal Alliance Energy Study, Pledges to Drive Down Costs as Governor

Waltham, MA — Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Kennealy today commended the Fiscal Alliance Foundation for its comprehensive new research detailing the soaring cost of energy across New England and reaffirmed his commitment to lowering energy prices when elected Governor of Massachusetts.

A study released today by the Fiscal Alliance Foundation finds that Governor Maura Healey’s current energy policies are significantly more expensive, threaten grid reliability, and place an unacceptable burden on Massachusetts families and businesses.

Reacting to the report, Kennealy warned that the Commonwealth is on an unsustainable path.

“Governor Healey has turned her back on Massachusetts residents in favor of a climate agenda that may appeal to her political base but has devastating consequences for everyday families,” said Kennealy. “If we continue down the path she has set, energy prices are projected to rise by as much as 126 percent by 2050. That is completely unacceptable. Massachusetts must end its 2050 green energy mandate and focus on reality-based solutions, and that must include next generation nuclear energy and natural gas.”

The study highlights that by 2050, New England’s electricity demand is expected to nearly double, driven by aggressive electrification mandates. Kennealy cautioned that relying almost exclusively on intermittent renewable sources will not only drive prices higher but also put the region at serious risk of power shortages.

“If we continue with a rigid, one-track focus on renewables, families will no longer just fear higher energy bills, they will fear blackouts,” Kennealy said. “We must begin investing now in reliable energy sources like next generation nuclear power and expanded natural gas infrastructure to protect our citizens in the future and to protect their wallets today.”

Calling the situation an urgent crisis, Kennealy emphasized that affordability will be the central focus of his administration.

“This is a genuine emergency, and it demands new leadership,” Kennealy said. “When I am Governor, affordability will be my top priority. I will tackle the energy crisis with the urgency it deserves and with a relentless focus on consumers, not ideology.”
