Kennealy Responds to Healey Executive Order Escalating Costly Energy Agenda

Waltham, MA – Today, Governor Maura Healey held a press conference announcing a new executive order aimed at doubling down on her administration’s aggressive green energy agenda – a move that threatens to further increase energy costs for Massachusetts families and businesses.

Leading Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Kennealy criticized the announcement, arguing that the Governor’s policies continue to drive up costs while ignoring practical solutions to the Commonwealth’s energy challenges.

“At a time when skyrocketing energy costs are pushing citizens out of Massachusetts and placing enormous strain on family budgets, Governor Healey is doubling down on the very policies that created this crisis,” said Kennealy. “The reality is that if Governor Healey had not blocked two natural gas pipelines from entering Massachusetts, we would not be facing the energy challenges we have today. Instead, families are forced to pay for expensive green mandates and gimmicks embedded in their utility bills that continue to drive rates higher.”

Kennealy added that the Governor’s announcement demonstrates a continued focus on ideological priorities rather than affordability for Massachusetts citizens.

“Today’s press conference made it clear that Governor Healey is more focused on advancing a partisan climate agenda than on bringing down costs for working families,” Kennealy continued. “Massachusetts needs a common sense energy strategy – one that prioritizes affordability, reliability, and innovation. That means being open to practical energy solutions that lower costs and strengthen our energy independence.”

Kennealy outlined a different approach, emphasizing a balanced energy policy that includes expanded domestic energy infrastructure and investment in emerging technologies.

“As Governor, my priority will be lowering costs for Massachusetts citizens and businesses,” said Kennealy. “We must pursue a balanced energy policy that includes expanding natural gas infrastructure while investing in the next generation of clean energy technologies like nuclear fusion. Massachusetts cannot afford to continue down the costly path Governor Healey has set us on.”
