Healey’s Tax-Till-It-Hurts Playbook Will Cost Residents At least $334 Million
Lexington, MA – Today, on Tax Day, Republican candidate for Governor of Massachusetts Mike
Kennealy announces his commitment to no new taxes, taking a different approach than
incumbent Democrat Maura Healey.
“Under Maura Healey, Massachusetts has become unaffordable – young people, families and
seniors are leaving our state. My commitment to Bay Staters is simple: no new taxes. I call on
Maura Healey to join me in this commitment,” said Republican candidate for Governor of
Massachusetts Mike Kennealy. “As many Bay Staters are making the tough decision to pay their
electricity bills or put food on the table, Maura Healey is spending roughly a billion a year on
the migrant crisis, proposing feckless new taxes and has abandoned fiscal responsibility. It is
time for a change.”
Maura Healey’s Tax-Till-It-Hurts Playbook includes:
- A six-percent tax or two-dollar fee on prescription drugs is anticipated to cost
Massachusetts residents $145 million. - A cap on charitable donation deductions is anticipated to cost Massachusetts residents
$164 million. - A 6.25-percent tax on candy is anticipated to cost Massachusetts taxpayers $25 million
- Empowering local municipalities to raise taxes on things like lodging and meals with the
Municipal Empowerment Act, including a five-percent surcharge on Motor Vehicle
Excise Bills
