Lexington, MA – Over the weekend, Governor Maura Healey used her remarks at the Democratic State Convention to attack Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Kennealy while steering the conversation away from policy and accountability.
Kennealy responded by calling out Healey’s attempts to distract voters:
“Voters are seeing right through Maura Healey’s deflection and unwillingness to stand by her record. Instead of taking responsibility, she is focused on attacking me and shifting blame for her failures. It is abundantly clear she wants to make this race about Washington, but the truth is that Washington is not responsible for Massachusetts’ problems.
It is not Washington that made the cost of raising a child in Massachusetts nearly double the national average. It is not Washington that made Massachusetts the least affordable state in the nation or created the least competitive economy in the country. It is not Washington that saddled families with sky-high energy costs. And it is not Washington that tolerated and neglected the appalling crimes taking place in migrant shelters. These are state-level issues, and it is the state government that must resolve them.”
Kennealy outlined his vision for leadership that puts Massachusetts citizens first:
“When I am Governor, I will take on these problems directly. I will lead with pragmatism over politics, common sense over conflict, and I will prioritize working families over ideology. That is what the people in Massachusetts are demanding, not more political posturing or finger-pointing on issues that are entirely within our control.”
